The Ecologist Green Party officially opened its campaign prior to the snap parliamentary elections of July 11 near the Dubăsari Hydropower Plant. It entered the camping with the slogan “Green for Health and Future!”. The party’s team is 52% composed of women. Its leader Vitalie Marinuța said they want to show that the woman has the right to respect and equality. He noted that the team includes young people and professionals from Chisinau and other settlements of the country. Over 70% of them have higher education, IPN reports.

Vitalie Marinuța stated that his party decided to start its campaign near the Dubăsari Hydropower Plant because this is a symbolical place for the major problems experienced by Moldova and society, which affect the life of Moldovans. The Nistru River, which risks losing its water owing to human activity, is high on the party’s agenda. “Most of the large towns are connected to the Nistru water. 70% of the country’s territory depends on the state of this river. All those who governed until now avoided the problem of the Nistru River. If we also do not speak about it, it risks becoming an ecological disaster,” stated Vitalie Marinuța.

Top candidate on the party’s list Olga Afanas, a teacher, businesswoman, civic activist, psychologist and personal development consultant, said her decision to become involved in politics was inspired by honest persons from this team who are devoted to causes for the people.  “I fully identify myself with this team. It is a team of devoted people with values. All the categories of persons who until now haven’t been represented are represented here. In the Republic of Moldova, the persons with disabilities represent 5-6% of the population and these persons have enormous intellectual, cultural and social potential that the Republic of Moldova realizes to a very small extent at present. This does not seem right to me. We deserve to be represented,” stated Olga Afanas, who has locomotor disabilities.

Civic activist, journalist Oleg Brega, who is on the party’s list of candidates for MP, said his intention is to defend and represent human rights, diversity. “It’s time to speak about human rights not only in universities, international organizations, the ECHR, but also in the family, kindergarten, at school, on TV, in Parliament, the police and courts of law so that the justice system functions appropriately and complaints are no longer be filed to the ECHR as these take millions of euros out of the public budget. I want to be a kind of people’s advocate in Parliament,” said the activist. He noted he will defend human rights, including of those who were jailed unjustly and are held in inhuman conditions. “I’m with the Ecologist Greens, with the ‘sunflower’ symbol. Find us on the ballot at the end and make so that we are among the first so that we bring freshness to the political life”.
