Ecaterina Mardarovici, executive director of the Women’s Political Club 50/50, considers that the latest political crisis that led to the dismemberment of the former ruling alliance was generated by politicians’ resentments. She believes that a new generation of politicians appeared in Moldova, who showed that an agreement can be reached by concerted effort and communication. Ecaterina Mardarovici made the statements in the public debate “Lessons learned and lessons to be learned. Overcoming and prevention of political crises: role of the political class and society - 1” that was staged by IPN News Agency.

Ecaterina Mardarovici considers that even if the leaders of two political parties involved in the political crisis are no longer in the lead, they play important roles in the decision-making process, like shadow generals. She referred to the head of the Liberal Democratic Party Vlad Filat and the chairman of the Democratic Party Marian Lupu. She added that they remain responsible for the functioning of the Pro-European Coalition that replaced the Alliance for European Integration.

According to the executive director of the Women’s Political Club 50/50, the crisis made the politicians realize that communication in a coalition government is necessary. Speaking about the risks generated by one-party governments, Ecaterina Mardarovici said such governments pose a threat to democracy as in Moldova there are no parties with democratic internal life, courageous members and party meetings open to the media and experts so that they see how the decisions are taken.

The 19th public debate “Lessons learned and lessons to be learned. Overcoming and prevention of political crises: role of the political class and society - 1” of the series “Development of political culture by public debates” was organized with support from the German foundation “Hanns Siedel”.
