The Ministry of Economy and Trade and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) will examine the possibility of constructing underground natural gas stores in Moldova. The given topic was discussed at a meeting of Deputy Minister of Economy and Trade Tudor Copaci and the EBRD Permanent Representative in Chisinau Libor Krkoska on March 17, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting the Economy Ministry’s PR department. “The project to build underground gas stores includes three basic stages: the pre-feasibility study, the feasibility study and the construction of gas storage facilities. The EBRD is considering the possibility of participating in all the three stages as co-investor,” Libor Krkoska said. According to the Economy Ministry, the implementation of the given project will strengthen Moldova’s energy security and will enable to cover the deficit of Russian gas supplies to the Balkan States during the cold period of the year, the communiqué says.
