The political crisis in the Chisinau Municipal Council (CMC) can be solved. This is the opinion of most of the councilors. However, the councilors have different opinions about the danger of early elections for the CMC. As the quorum was absent, the meeting of the Council set for June 2 was postponed for the third consecutive time, Info-Prim Neo reports. [The CMC secretary Valeriu Didencu] said that there are no reasons for holding early elections in the municipality. “According to the regulations of the CMC, the meetings are held once in three months. Early elections can take place only if the local councilors take no decision during 6 months,” Didencu said. [Ion Ciobanu, the new leader of the faction of the Liberal Party (PL)] considers that this is a game of the Communists, aimed at hindering the validation of the permits of those that will replace the councilors that became MPs. “They try to form a majority in the CMC. The results of the parliamentary elections show that if early elections are held in the municipality, the PL, PLDM and AMN will form the majority in the Council. In fact, the game from the Parliament moved to the CMC. Until the situation is not clarified there, it is hard to say how things will develop in the CMC,” Ciobanu said. “I don’t think that the early elections can solve the crisis in the CMC. The Chisinau residents made their choice. It is our duty to solve the economic problems, not politicize them as it is done now. We took the position of the ostrich in order not to see them, but this is not right, considers [Pavel Caba, leader of the faction of the AMN]. He said that when there is a world financial crisis, the councilors should take measures to minimize its effects. “I propose that the mayor should immediately convene the leaders of the factions in order to reach a consensus,” Caba said. [The leader of the faction of the PPCD Alexandru Corduneanu] is convinced that the early elections in Chisinau would be a catastrophe. “My impression is that the situation from the Parliament was transposed to the CMC. The political crisis in Moldova that has lasted for several months already impacts all the settlements and state institutions. Until the new state institutions are created, the local public authorities will see no peace. We are the witnesses of a deep economic, social and political crisis that is greatly influenced by the external developments. The early elections would be to the detriment of the people and a catastrophe for Chisinau,” Corduneanu considers. The faction of the PLDM is ready for early elections for the CMC and is convinced that the Liberal parties will have a stable majority in the capital city. [Ghenadie Dumanschi, councilor of the PLDM], has said that he is not against early elections in Chisinau. “We are ready for early elections. When there is no majority in the CMC, the early elections can significantly change the situation in the municipality, Dumanschi said. [Valeri Pavlov, member of the faction of the PCRM], said that there is no connection between the non-participation of the PCRM in the Council’s meetings and the presidential elections. He considers that the early elections for the CMC are not a solution for the capital. “It would be a waste of money as in the case of early parliamentary elections. “The Chisinau City Hall’s negligent attitude towards the councilors and the hiding of the disastrous effects of the Liberal government became norms. We are forced to fight with the incompetence of the executive as we can,” Pavlov said. The Social-Democratic councilors expressed their optimism, saying that the efforts of the councilors and of the City Hall must be aimed at solving the economic, not political problems. “The councilors are wise enough to leave the political ambitions aside and return to normality. The Parliament, not the Council is the place for politics. We will definitely find solutions to break the deadlock and show the voters that we can cope with the financial crisis, said the [Social-Democratic councilor Ada Boico].
