The e-Prescription system will become functional at the end of 2021. This will help to eliminate the incorrect prescription of medicines and issuing of medical prescriptions for the wrong purpose at all the stages, director general of the National Health Insurance Company Valentina Buliga stated in Parliament, being quoted by IPN.

Valentina Buliga noted that the current automated information system of compensated drugs is outdated. Last year, there were introduced a set of filters for validating prescriptions and the control over entities that prescribe and issue drugs was intensified.

“As we have the right to use personal data, we have more sources of information, assessment, analysis and we indeed identified deviations after we stepped up the efforts to bring things in this sector in order. At the current stage, we do not need cardinal legislative changes to be able to detect irregularities and impose penalties and ask for the return of funds if these are misused. Regrettably, we have dishonest business entities that try by different methods to avoid fulfilling our prescriptions and we have to seek help from the prosecution service and other bodies,” said the official.

According to Valentia Buliga, the r-Prescription system is not within the remit of the National Health Insurance Company only. A number of changes in the information system of the Primary Medical Assistance are needed. This is a project supported by the World Bank. The procurement procedure will be performed in April. When the system is put into operation, the Company will fulfill its financial obligations assessed in accordance with the costs.
