The Moldovan Boxing Federation named Dumitru Galogot as the best pugilist of 2015. Galagot ranked fifth at the European Championships in Sofia and was the only representative of Moldova at the World Championship, IPN reports.

“Galogot could have had a good performance at the European Sports Games of Baku too, but he was disadvantaged by the referees. There were made too many mistakes this year, which were to the detriment of the Moldovan pugilists,” the coach of the national boxing team of Moldova Petru Caduc, who was named the coach of the year, told a news conference.

Vlad Gavriliuc, who won bronze at the European Youth Championship, became the best young boxer. Gavriliuc is also Petru Caduc’s pupil. Constantin Ursu, who is trained by Tudor Ciobanu, was named the best junior pugilist.

The Moldovan boxers next year will struggle to earn qualification for the Rio Olympics at the tournaments of Istanbul (April 20 - May 1) and of Baku (June 7-18). For now no Moldovan pugilist has qualified for the 2016 Olympic Games.
