The Dubasari Bakery that stopped working several years ago was put up for sale. The privatization commission of the self-styled economy ministry of Transnistria assessed the bakery at 25,000 Transnistrian rubles (about $3,000).
According to Info-Prim Neo’s correspondent in Transnistria, the estimated cost of the bread-making factory, whose industrial premises are located in the center of Dubasari town, is several times lower than the price of a studio apartment that amounts to over $12,000.
Dubasari is supplied with bread mainly from Tiraspol. Four bakeries work in the region at present: in Tiraspol, Bender (Tighina), Slobozia, and Rabnita. All had been privatized.
The weekly “Profsoiuznyie Vesti” (“Trade Union News”) says that the prices of certain facilities put up for sale are groundlessly decreased. No auction is being held. The companies are sometimes sold for a derisory price. For instance, the 100% shares in “Dnestr” factory were sold to “Incom” SRL for $76,400, amount equal to the price of three two-room apartments. There are a lot of such examples. “Hundreds of thousands of square meters, goods, production equipment of tens of thousands of dollars – everything was lost. How can we explain such foolishness? They hurried to sell quickly, not thinking that the state should get a maximum profit from these sales, at a time when the republic was badly in need of money? Or the things are much simpler and everything was done to satisfy the interests of certain persons?” the weekly asks rhetorically.
The results of the privatization carried out in the region in 2007 have not been made public yet. About $27 million was earned from privatizing 52 state-owned facilities in 2006.
