The Government knows the needs of citizens and tries to offer assistance within the limits of the available budget, Prime Minister Dorin Recean said after tens of Independence War veterans on Thursday demanded that the authorities should earmark additional allocations for veterans in the 2024 state budget. The Premier said the veterans’ allowance increased considerably, IPN reports.
On Thursday, tens of veterans of the Nistru war of 1992 protested in front of the Parliament Building, demanding that the MPs should amend the state budget law and allocate more money for veterans’ pensions and allowances. Premier Recean said the state budget funds are enough to cover the needs of all the citizens.
“One should not necessarily protest for us to know that there is a need. We try to anticipate things, but I want the protests not to be politicized. As to the veterans’ protest, I know that we all owe to the veterans who fought for the independence and sovereignty of the Republic of Moldova. We seek to cove these needs with the available funds. The allowance for veterans over the last two years rose from 250 lei to 1,000 lei. Is it enough? Evidently not. But there are financial constraints. We realize that there are assistance needs, but we also need to assist the businesses so that they develop and provide jobs and the allocations from taxes, from which these socials services could be paid, are increased,” Dorin Recean stated in the program “Shadow Cabinet” on JurnalTV channel.
In another development, the official said the state of emergency will probably not be extended any more. The TV channels whose broadcast licenses were suspended will not be allowed to work after the state of emergency is lifted.
“The Cabinet prepared and approved a number of legislative packages that enable the Executive to manage such situations outside the state of emergency. Consequently, the 12 TV channels that disseminate propaganda and manipulation and serve the interests of criminal gropes will not be able to broadcast. Even if the state of emergency is lifted, these 12 channels will not be allowed to work. Relevant decisions will be taken outside the state of emergency,” stated Premier Recean.
The state of emergency in the Republic of Moldova was declared the day Russia started its war against Ukraine. The last time it was extended on December 1 for a period of 30 days.
