The Republic of Moldova is open to contribute to the reconstruction of Ukraine. And it is important to strengthen efforts, resources and expertise of states to overcome challenges in this regard. “By investing in cooperation and realizing our common interests in infrastructure, energy and digitalization, we can build a developed and strong region, in which all nations will prosper,” Prime Minister Dorin Recean stated at the ninth edition of the Three Seas Summit that is taking place in Vilnius, IPN reports.

In his speech, the Moldovan official stressed the need for cooperation at regional level, including in the context of the turbulent period caused by Russia’s war against Ukraine. According to him, Moldova is affected economically, but also in terms of security, by the persisting hybrid challenges.

“We manage to maintain peace and order throughout the country, and regional cooperation in promoting security makes us even more resilient. As a candidate country for EU integration, we share the same priorities as the member states of the Three Seas Initiative,” said Premier Recean.

He noted that the Republic of Moldova is taking decisive steps to accelerate the European path and transform the most important sectors. In particular, regional connections are improved, energy networks are interconnected, thegas transmission capacity is extended and projects are developed to ensure the country’s energy independence. The authorities remain focused on developing a modern and interconnected infrastructure. “The Three Seas Initiative’s emphasis on infrastructure development aligns perfectly with our national goals. Information technology and digitization, which are, in fact, means of accelerating economic and social progress, are also among the areas that offer a huge potential,” stated the Moldovan official.

The Three Seas Initiative includes 13 European Union member states bordering the Black, Baltic and Adriatic seas. At the 2023 Summit held in Bucharest, Moldova obtained the status of associated participating country of the Three Seas Initiative.
