The Central Election Commission (CEC) is waiting for results from the police over the notifications made by Promo-LEX and election runners concerning the illegal transportation of voters in the November 1 election, the Commission’s president Dorin Cimil stated.
“What is important for us as the managers of the electoral process is to record all these cases, to take attitude swiftly and correctly to such actions and, in accordance with our duties, to penalize the persons to blame for such actions. As the given crime elements or contraventions are within the remit of the police or of prosecutors, we are waiting for prompt and correct results from these bodies,” IPN quoted Dorin Cimil as saying in the talk show “Emphasis on Today” on TVR Moldova channel.
The CEC president noted that the reported and confirmed cases should result in penalties imposed by court decisions. He asked for accurate information about the investigation of the alleged cases of fraud from the Ministry of Home Affairs.
As to the reports about organized transportation of voters in the diaspora, Dorin Cimil said there are several images that were posted on social networking sites, but there is no confirmation in this regard.
“A complaint to this effect was submitted by an MP, who warned us and asked to investigate particular cases of organized transportation in the diaspora following the publication of pictures and information online. The pictures show informing for mobilization, organization of transport and others. We cannot ascertain other aspects at the moment,” stated the functionary
On November 1, the observers of Promo-LEX’s mission reported a number of cases of organized transportation of voters to polling stations established for voters residing in the Transnistrian region. For example, voters were bought by bus up to the bridge between the towns of Rybnitsa and Rezina and they later continued their way on foot or by small capacity vehicles up to the polling station.
