Current mayor of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca, in the possible new tenure, aims to apply the experience of the German town of Dresden for efficiently administering the capital city. The Liberal Party’s candidate told a news conference on May 28 that the experience of Dresden in renovating infrastructure can be useful for Chisinau as both of the cities have a Soviet historical past, Info-Prim Neo reports. In a meeting on May 28, Dorin Chirtoaca invited to Chisinau Roland Werner, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Economy, Labor and Transport of the federal region Saxony, whose capital is Dresden. After an hour of discussions, Chirtoaca and Werner concluded that owing to the same Communist past, the two cities have many things to share between them. “We agreed to establish partnerships between Chisinau and Dresden. We have a common past. The problems experienced by Dresden were the same as those confronting Chisinau, like the rehabilitation of the housing stock and infrastructure-related problems,” said Dorin Chirtoaca. Roland Werner expressed his conviction that the municipality of Chisinau has all the chances needed to profit from the experience of Dresden, not only in the socioeconomic, but also cultural and political spheres, as the city is managed also by a Liberal mayor. “Chisinau is the capital of a European country. We have many similarities. We share a Communist history and have the same task – of transforming the economy of our cities into a prosperous one. We can cooperate in a European environment,” said the German official. The discussions held at the Liberal Party’s head office in Chisinau were also attended by Romanian Senator Cristian David, vice president of the Liberal International. In the same news conference, the politician said that one of the main opportunities for Chisinau and Moldova in general is the large bilateral cooperation projects with Romania in such areas as infrastructure and cultural exchange. “The aim of our visit to Chisinau is to show solidarity and political support for the candidates of the Liberal Party in the local elections. We are confident that the Chisinau City Hall will continue the reform process initiated by Dorin Chirtoaca,” said Cristian David.
