The candidate for Chisinau Mayor General on behalf of the Liberal Party (PL) Dorin Chirtoaca says there are some divergences between the preliminary results of the first round elections in the municipality of Chisinau and the results of the parallel vote tabulation conducted by the Coalition 2007. Chirtoaca hopes that in the end the figures will correspond to the truth.
Dorin Chirtoaca told Info-Prim Neo that the preliminary results increase the responsibility and the mobility of his staff that will continue to “fight for victory, to bring the change in Chisinau”.
Referring to the election campaign, Chirtoaca stated that it saw severe violations even at the stage of registering candidates for mayor general of the capital, with abuses and even arrests of PL candidates. “The government failed to maintain an equitable and fair atmosphere in the campaign, obstructing the PL to meet with its voters. But the totalitarian practices are no longer working, the voters realised that such things cannot go on forever and chose the change”, Dorin Chirtoaca said.
The PL candidate is positive that this change will take place in Chisinau and the democracy will win. Chirtoaca is also confident that the communists will be a minority in the Chisinau Municipal Council and the other parties will ally so as to further the democracy and to promote the citizens’ interests.
According to the results made public at 10.30 by the Central Election Commission, the PL candidate for Mayor General Dorin Chirtoaca received 24.6% of the votes, being the second best among 18 candidates. Chirtoaca will enter the second round together with the representative of the Party of Communists, Veaceslav Iordan.
