Dorin Chirtoaca: Even early elections can’t help Communists

Even if early elections take place once again, the Communists Party has no chances of coming to power. The statement was made by Dorin Chirtoaca, mayor of Chisinau and vice president of the Liberal Party, during the Press Club, Info-Prim Neo reports. Chirtoaca argued his statement with the elections results since April 2009. According to him, “in this period, the votes obtained by Communists were less than those for the Alliance for European Integration (AEI), both in percent and numbers”. “There are more aspects, but if we generally compare the Alliance to the Communists, the later have been constantly losing voters over the last 2 years, despite their propaganda, all the problems, markups, floods and so on. They lost votes, I speak about absolute numbers here, even though the participation rate increased, they still lost. It’s clear where these votes went: to the Democrats and the Liberal-Democratic Party. The situation has changed, their decline is ongoing”, Chirtoaca said. Meanwhile, he thinks it’s too soon to speak about early elections, because AEI is trying hard to find solutions and avoid a new ballot. He referred to a possible cooperation between “all 101 deputies”, but mentioned that AIE parties’ experts are looking into the possibility of changing the procedure of electing the president in the second round. “The Constitution doesn’t say clearly how the president should be elected in the second round of voting. It says nothing about the number of votes and we could make a law regarding the details of the election procedure, which would be a near solution”, the mayor said. “If early elections do happen, the Alliance will have to be firm and realize that what has been started, must go on, with or without early elections. Meanwhile, people must understand that this happens only because of somebody’s ambition, whim and stupidity. Finally, no matter the solution to this political crisis, early elections or referendum, we will still win and will finish what we have promised. These are the three things each citizen should understand about the current state of things. The rest are technical details, because PCRM’s behavior shows nothing but lack of imagination and incapacity to find solutions when we have elections twice a year. Perhaps everyone has its own plans, but we can’t let people be fooled again and again. The Alliance cannot be stopped and people must realize that. This way, they’ll see things differently”, the mayor Dorin Chirtoaca stated.
