The UNION Elector Bloc’s candidate for President Dorin Chirtoacă, who hasn’t been yet registered, said that during the last three days the UNION Movement showed that the institution that does not have the right to make mistakes, as the law provides, made mistakes yet and the Central Election Commission had to admit defeat in the confrontation they had during the last three days.

According to Dorin Chirtoacă, the CEC was close to rejecting his registration as a candidate, but he went to the electoral authority where he proved that the authority was wrong. More exactly, of the over 20,000 presented signatures, more than 3,000 were classified incorrectly. The database of the system didn’t uniformly respond to the data concerning residence and there were identified dead persons among those who put their signatures, but those persons were actually alive. This happened because the CEC operator introduced inaccurate data.

“If the Central Election Commission made mistakes when dealing with 20,000 signatures put by citizens, how can it cope with 1.5 million votes or 2 million votes cast by the citizens of the Republic of Moldova in elections? Can the CEC and the state institutions guarantee the election results? Evidently no,” stated the leader of the Liberal Party.

According to Dorin Chirtoacă, besides massive mobilization, with a massive anti-Dodon, the UNION Bloc must also defend its votes in polling stations. A Vote Defending Council should be set up and observers should be delegated to monitor vote count at polling stations and prevent rigging. Volunteers are also needed to oversee the elections. The politician called on all the unionists of Moldova to join in the strategy “All for union and union for all” that is designed to beat Igor Dodon in the upcoming elections and to also revitalize the unionist current in Moldova.

Asked by IPN to comment on these assertions, Rodica Sîrbu, head of the Communication Section of the Central Election Commission said the CEC will not comment on them. The CEC will have a meeting later today to examine the applications to register the UNION Elector Bloc’s candidate for President Dorin Chirtoacă and the National Unity Party’s candidate Octavian Țîcu as electoral contenders.
