The European official, who is in Chisinau on a two-day visit, encouraged the authorities to do reforms, saying the EU will remain a friend and supporter of the country. Donald Tusk told the reporters that the meeting with Nicolae Timofti centered on the implementation of the Association Agreement, from which all the Moldovan citizens will benefit. The augmentation of trade between Moldova and the EU is a signal that the country follows the correct path, but a lot is yet to be done to make a real change. The justice sector reform and the fight against corruption are two key areas, but the banking crisis should also be resolved. This thing is important for restoring the confidence of the business sector and of the people.

On the occasion of one year of the abolition of the visa requirements for Moldovans, Donald Tusk said this opportunity revealed the concrete benefits of the intense cooperation between Moldova and the European Union.

Nicolae Timofti assured the European official that the Moldovan authorities will fulfill the commitments made to the EU and will use the huge opportunities offered by this historical document.

The head of state said the first results in the implementation of the Association Agreement are already evident and will become even more visible in the immediate future. He told the European official he understands how important for Moldova is to strengthen the rule of law and its democratic institutions so that the benefits of the European integration are felt by all the people.
