The Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office has indicted ex-president Igor Dodon and his wife Galina, together with a family doctor, on charges of “fabricating, possessing and employing a fake medical certificate for the purpose of presenting it in court and to prosecutors in order to obtain permission for leaving abroad”.

According to the indictment, the certificate lied about Igor Dodon’s underage son needing a post-Covid medical treatment abroad, specifically in Romania. The former president allegedly intended to use it to circumvent a court-ordered restriction from leaving the national jurisdiction while on trial in another case.

It is also alleged that Galina Dodon used the same certificate for a similar purpose, with the former first lady also under prosecution.

The crime of forging an official document carries penalties in the form of imprisonment for up to 5 years, or fines, or community service.
