Anesthesiologist Ecaterina Maniuc was arrested on suspicion that she administered general anesthesia to the woman who recently died in a beauty salon. The information was confirmed on Friday evening by representatives of the Prosecutor General's Office for Realitatea, IPN reports.
The woman was arrested in traffic, after prosecutors initiated a criminal case for illegal practice of medicine, which led to the death of the victim. The anesthesiologist faces up to three years in prison, according to the Criminal Code.
Ecaterina Maniuc earlier headed the Anesthesiology and Intensive Care Unit of the Clinical Hospital of the Ministry of Health and rose from the rank of nurse to anesthesiologist-reanimatologist.
Until recently, there was no official suspect in this case. The investigation started only on February 3, although the victim died on January 30, as a result of cosmetic surgery performed under general anesthesia, said the victim's husband Roman Babitski. According to him, the salon continued to operate after the incident. However, the National Public Health Agency said that when checks were conducted on January 31 and February 3, the salon was closed.
Meanwhile, the authorities informed that the owner of the salon left the Republic of Moldova through the Palanca customs post, heading for Ukraine.
