The Moldovan tennis players didn’t manage to qualify for the final of the “Dmitry Sturdza” tournament that was held in Chisinau for the 17th time. The women’s final involved Georgia Andreea Craciun of Romania and Russia’s Vlada Kovali. The 17-year-old Romanian player won by three sets 4-6, 6-3 and 7-5, IPN reports.

The men’s final between two Polish players was won by Kasper Zuk. Maxim Dubarenko was the last Moldovan tennis player who won the main trophy at this competition. Now he represents Belarus. Last year, Adriana Sosnovschi reached the final. “I’m rather disappointed with the performance of the Moldovan tennis players, but I hope that next year the results will be much better,” said the president of the Moldovan Tennis Federation Marina Tauber.

The tennis competitions continue at the specialized school. The qualifying rounds for the Davis Cup start on February 16. Maxim Bulat, Andrei Sholtoianu, Dumitru Bascov and Igor Matveevich will compete for the vacancy on the men’s national tennis team.
