Habilitated Doctor Alexei Sofroni a distinguished gastroenterologist and university professor, died following a long battle with Covid, the Ministry of Health announced.
Sofroni’s last coronavirus test on September 15 came back negative, but the complications generated by the infection were eventually lethal.
Also on Monday, the Ministry reported about the death of pediatric surgeon Iurie Solomon. Diagnosed with the novel coronavirus, he was admitted to the National Hospital on September 10.
The number of confirmed cases topped the 46,500 mark in Moldova. More than 1200 could not be saved. 592 are currently in severe conditions.
