The Head of the EU Delegation to Moldova Dirk Schuebel approved of the adoption by Parliament of a statement on the situation in the Transnistrian region, stressing the importance of the common vote of the parliamentary majority and the opposition as a first step towards establishing relations of cooperation between the two sides. The European official made the statements in a meeting with Head of Parliament Igor Corman in the evening of June 21, IPN reports.
According to a communiqué from the legislative body, Dirk Schuebel noted the significance of the cooperation between the branches of the legislative and executive powers, welcoming the organization of the first meeting of coordination between Parliament and the Government. As to the liberalization of the visa regime with the EU and the signing of the Association Agreement, the European official said it is important to implement the legislation to ensure equality.
The two interlocutors referred also to the Speaker’s recent visit to Brussels and to the steps taken by the Moldovan authorities on the path to European integration. Igor Corman said the assistance offered by the EU to Moldova is very important and thanked the European partners for their support.
Igor Corman and Dirk Schuebel underlined the weight of the parliamentary dimension in the relationship with the EU for transferring experience and good practices in the process of adjusting the national legislation to the European norms and standards.
