The head of the Center of Excellence in Medicine "Raisa Pacalo" was dismissed by an order made by Minister of Health Ala Nemerenco. The dismissal comes in the context of searches conducted in a scheme of embezzlement of public funds by decision-makers and employees of the educational institution, IPN reports.
The minister's reaction comes after anticorruption officers last week carried out 45 searches and the director of the institution, the chief accountant, a human resources specialist and a unit head were charged. Five other people are investigated as suspects.
"I dismissed the director of the institution. The prosecutors ask for their suspension from office, but I will ask them all to resign. They no longer have any moral right to enter classes with students and talk to them about moral values," said Ala Nemerenco.
Following the searches, the director of the institution, the chief accountant, a human resources specialist and a unit head were arrested. The Prosecutor's Office for Organized Crime and Special Cases said that when being questioned, the suspects partially confirmed their involvement in the investigated scheme and it was decided to release them and to investigate them at liberty.
