The state-run company “Radiocomunicatii” introduced a new transmitter on average weaves in the 873 kHz frequency on a trial basis. The device will enable to broadcast the national radio station Radio Moldova both in analogical regime and in digital regime DRM (Digital Radio Mondiale).

Radio Moldova director Alexandru Dorogan said the Digital Radio Mondiale standard is a prospect, but not all the Moldovans can afford to buy a digital radio to feel the quality of the sound. The new technology hasn’t yet produced benefits as it is only tested.

According to a communiqué from IS “Radiocomunicatii”, the new technology DRM will enable to halve the electric power consumption during the trial period. When switching to the DRM standard, the listeners will be able to receive Radio Moldova on a wider area and the quality of sound will be better. The equipment that allows receiving DRM is a premiere for Moldova. Such technology is used in Romania, Italy, and Germany.
