Some expert consider the geopolitical situation became favorable for Moldova to resolve the Transnistrian dispute, while others believe time is yet needed to solve the conflict. Such statements were made in the talk show “Moldova live” on the public TV channel Moldova 1, IPN reports.

Anatol Taranu, director of the Center for Strategic Research and Political Consultancy “Politicon”, thinks Russia is no longer so focused on Transnistria as two years ago. “Now Russia’s attention centers on the eastern regions of Ukraine. The economic situation prevents Russia from allocating money for supporting the separatist regime. It would be unintelligent not to profit from this situation,” he stated.

According to Taranu, Chisinau should negotiate the strengthening of the status of neutrality with the Kremlin, as the PCRM proposed earlier. “Chisinau must impose conditions on Moscow concerning Transnistria and the neutrality status and demand that Russian should pull out its army and stop supporting financially the separatist regime. They should demand – you either withdraw from Transnistria or we will strengthen our neutrality and form an alliance with NATO,” he suggested.

The president of honor of the Democratic Party Dumitru Diacov insists on establishing a parliamentary dialogue with Tiraspol. “We had such a dialogue, but it was interrupted by President Vladimir Voronin. When this dialogue existed, the politicians were able to visit our schools in Transnistria, accompanied by journalists, and to deal with the problems of our people living there. There are many problems that we can solve by parliamentary dialogue, such as the movement of people. The issue must be settled by diplomatic ways. Everything depends on us, on the quality of governance. Nobody will fight against Russia to defend Moldova,” he stated.

University professor Viorica Tacu considers Russia will not renounce Transnistria so easily. “Russia solves its problems through the agency of Transnistria. It has controlled this territory for several centuries. However, I consider the solution to the Transnistrian conflict is in Chisinau,” she stated.
