Dorin Chirtoaca was released from house arrest and placed under judicial control so that the referendum on his dismissal scheduled for November 19 fails. Such an opinion was stated in the talk show “Key issue” on NTV Moldova channel, IPN reports.

Politologist Boris Sapovalov said the release of the mayor represents a cunning stratagem. “Why did they do it? It’s simple. They want the referendum initiated by the Party of Socialists to fail. They want the voters to be confused so that they do not take part in the referendum,” he stated. According to him, Dorin Chirtoaca was set free so that he could take part in programs and could campaign in the municipality.

Jurist Pavel Midrigan said Dorin Chirtoaca wasn’t glad that he was set free now, one week before the referendum. The fact that he is now free is a minus for Dorin Chirtoaca because his opponents, first of all the Socialists, will become even more insistent.

Political analyst Ion Tabarta noted the situation created in the municipality of Chisinau is favorable to the Democratic Party because, from official viewpoint, Dorin Chirtoaca didn’t leave, but de facto he no longer manages the City Hall. “Now Dorin Chirtoaca looks like a wounded animal and I think he will defend himself. We will probably find out how he will do it and if he still has forces to do it next week,” stated the analyst.

The suspended mayor of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca was released from house arrest and was placed under judicial control based on a decision passed by the Buiucani branch of the Court of Chisinau municipality on November 10. Dorin Chirtoaca does not have the right to leave the municipality and must announce any change of domicile. He cannot go to work or to places where there are persons involved in the case and must appear before court whenever he is summoned.
