Some experts consider there are no political alternatives in Moldova if early parliamentary elections are held, while others think such alternatives exist, but the voters do not pay enough attention to them. Contradictory statements on the issue were made in the talk show “Moldova live” on the public TV channel Moldova 1, IPN reports.
Ion Dron, chairman of the public association “Center for Initiatives and Public Authorities Monitoring”, said the parties are most often created to protect illegal businesses. “At the beginning, shrewd men who came to power made laws that allowed them to privatize the life-long work of our parents. Afterward, the shrewd men thought how to protect their property and thus formed parties, and did so that those who want to assert themselves in politics, but do not have money, have no chance to do it,” he stated.
The head of the public association “Justice and Democracy” Pavel Midrigan said there are no political alternatives because the people do not have confidence in the existing political parties. “Today politics is a profitable business. The state interests and people’s interests are not protected. I think a semi-dictatorial regime should be established, as in Belarus. The people in villages die of hunger and they don’t care about democracy,” he stated.
On the other hand, Ecaterina Mardarovici, executive director of the Women’s Political Club 50/50, considers there are alternatives to the ruling parries in the possible legislative elections. “We have extraparliamentary parties, but the Moldovan voters do not know how to correctly vote. They are used to vote particular extremes. Otherwise, I cannot explain how the ruling parties won last summer’s local elections after the theft of the billions of lei became known,” she said.
