Some politicians and analysts consider Moldova’s union with Romania is a viable alternative, while others believe such a project is doomed to failure. Contradictory statements on the issue were made in the talk show “Politics” on TV 7 channel, IPN reports.

Vitalia Pavlicenco, chairwoman of the National Liberal Party, considers only the union with Romania will help solve the problems faced by Moldova. “The union will bring only benefits. An increasing number of people are for the union. When we become one state, we will get rid of the corrupt politicians and will live better,” she stated.

The head of the public association “Moldova mea” Fiodor Ghelici also thinks the union with Romania will contribute to solving the problems experienced by Moldova. “Our political class is no longer trusted by the population. Many say there is the Transnistrian issue, but we can unite with Romania without Transnistria. We must forget about this region that started to belong to the Russian Federation long ago,” he said.

Political analyst Olga Nicolenco considers the union in the current conditions is not possible. “This is an idea that has the right to live, but not before we deal with our problems,” she stated.

Valeriu Ostalep, director of the Institute of Diplomatic, Political and Security Studies, rejected the idea of the union with Romania. “The Republic of Moldova is an independent state that should be kept. At practical level, the union is impossible. Things in Romania do not stand better. Moldova’s union with Romania would mean only the union of two poor states,” he said.
