Diesel fuel will cost more than gasoline “95”. The National Agency for Energy Regulation for March 30 set the price ceiling for diesel fuel at 27.25 lei, up 0.28 lei on today, and the price ceiling for gasoline “95” at 27.17 lei, up 0.06 lei, IPN reports.

The highest retail prices of the main oil products are calculated based on the average value of Platts quotations for the 14 previous days correlated with the leu/dollar exchange rate plus the excise duty, the value added tax and the specific profit margin. “As a result, any decline or increase in prices on international markets is felt only in several days at pumps of filling stations in the Republic of Moldova,” said the Agency.

It noted that in March the international markets witnessed two consecutive waves of rises in quotations of oil products owing to the tragic events in Ukraine and to the sanctions imposed on Russia. The reduced supply of diesel fuel against the demand was acutely felt, the European states being the most exposed. Imports from Russia represent about 15% of the diesel fuel consumption in Europe, while the refineries from the continent also import petroleum from Russia for making fuel for the European market. Earlier, the price of diesel fuel on international markets was by 30-120 $/tonne lower than the price of gasoline, but in March this exceeded the price of gasoline and was by 100-170 $/tonne higher on some days.

In mid-March, the National Agency for Energy Regulation said the retail prices of the standard petroleum products - COR “95” and diesel fuel – reached the upper levels and pump prices would stabilize.
