The social networking sites created an ‘electoral technology’ in the campaign prior to the presidential elections and the massive mobilization shows the people from the diaspora have an eye on what is going on in Moldova, political commentator Victor Gurau stated in the program “Special Edition” on Publika TV channel, IPN reports.
Victor Gurau noted the mobilization of the Moldovans abroad, whose contribution to the GDP is higher than that of the Moldovans from the country, shows that they connect their future to Moldova. The authorities should work more with the diaspora, while the people should know to make a difference between the electoral message and the post-electoral one.
Director of the consultancy company Intelect Grup Ian Lisnevschi said the turnout abroad is a record for Moldova. The registration beforehand showed a lower voter turnout. In 2010, more than 70,000 Moldovans voted at polling places abroad, as opposed to over 130,000 now.
Political analyst Alexandru Solcan said the unexpected mobilization abroad was generated by the active movement on social networking sites. He said he pities the elected President as all the electoral promises will be made his burden.
Journalist Cristi Tabara said the people forgot about the limited powers of the President of a parliamentary republic. They voted in the runoff as if life will be or will not be depending on the President that will be elected, who will be able to change poles. “This will not happen because Moldova is governed by the Premier, while the President has limited powers,” he stated.
