Owing to the high temperatures and lack of precipitation, the reserve of moisture that was present in the soil at the end of March was used up. The seeds were sowed in practically dry soil and now they do not have the moisture needed to sprout.

Contacted by IPN, Vasile Sarban, division head at the Ministry of Agriculture, Regional Development and Environment, said the irrigation is the only solution, but this method cannot be used on large areas.

Temperatures of 29-31 degrees Celsius were forecast for May 3-5. On May 6 the temperatures will start to decline and showers with thunder and lightning are expected next Monday, May 7.
