On the National Wine Day celebrated on October 3-4, the national wineries will open their doors to visitors. The authorities will provide free transport from the capital city. The tourists who will arrive at the Chisinau International Airport will be informed about wineries’ programs at a stall that will start work at the airport on October 1. Brochures with relevant information will also be distributed in the center of Chisinau, near the Great National Assembly Square, and in the hotels situated in the capital city, IPN reports.

Director of the National Office of Vine and Wine Dumitru Munteanu told a news conference that the tourists who will approach the airport stall will receive a bottle of wine with the emblem “Welcome to Moldova!”, a map and a leaflet with wineries’ programs on the occasion of the Wine Day. The Office will provide free transport to and from the wineries. Eight minibuses and 12 buses will be available in the parking lot of the Tourist Hotel located at 9 Grigore Vieru Blvd.

The wineries will organize trips to vineyards and underground cellars. The hosts will prepare traditional dishes and will serve the most delicious Moldovan wines. Some of the wineries will stage performances. According to Dumitru Munteanu, each winery will decide the program, ticket prices and the possibility of providing accommodation to tourists by itself.

Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry of Moldova Ion Sula said the Top Prize for the best winemaking company will be handed over on October 3. This year this is the company “Asconi”. The award ceremony will be held on the winery’s territory, while the prize will be handed over by the Prime Minister. The same day, there will be awarded the prize for the most skillful winemaker, who this year is Vasile Luca of “Cricova”.

The decision not to stage the Wine Day celebrations in the Great National Assembly Square of Chisinau was taken by the representatives of a group of wine producers. These argued that the central square of the capital city is now occupied by protesters. Furthermore, it is not opportune to celebrate the National Wine Day now that Moldova faces economic difficulties.
