Deputy prosecutor general Ruslan Popov will be examined by the National Integrity Authority (NIA) after Prosecutor General Alexandr Stoianoglo familiarized himself with a journalistic investigation featuring Popov. In a press release, the Prosecutor General’s Office says the materials will be transmitted to the NIA for examination, IPN reports.

According to the PGO, Ruslan Popov insists that the property indicated in the article, except for the family’s house and car, does not belong to him. It is owned by his parents and his brother’s family. The invested money was obtained honestly and this can be proven. Ruslan Popov noted that his parents possess not 100 ha, but 20 ha of orchard. His mother has worked in Italy for 15 years and earns money legally. His brother and his family settled in Italy over ten years ago and they all invested legally in this business, including money obtained from selling real estate.

As to his property and the property of his parents-in-law, Popov said the parents of his wife all their life lived and worked in Ukraine, growing and selling vegetables. Over five years ago, they moved to Moldova and built a separate home.

Concomitantly, Ruslan Popov said the information that denigrates him and his family is intentionally disseminated by particular persons and groups of political, economic and criminal interests as a result of his recent professional activity in the prosecution service, which affects their comfort and can result in their prosecution.

The National Integrity Authority said that after the Center for the Analysis and Prevention of Corruption on January 3 sent a letter concerning deputy prosecutor general Ruslan Popov, this letter was remitted to the Integrity Inspectorate. On January 17, after examining it, it was ordered to determine the legal regime of the property owned by Ruslan Popov, with him being notified of the control procedures. Currently, the integrity inspector is collecting evidence and made a request for information to the PGO as well.
