Deputy Premier Popescu on working visit to Brussels

Deputy Prime Minister Nicu Popescu, Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, will be paying a working visit to Brussels during February 20-21. In the capital of Belgium, Minister Popescu will present the priorities of the new Government of the Republic of Moldova to the European partners and will speak about Moldova’s accession to the EU, the implementation of reforms and the transposition of the Community acquis to the national legislation, IPN reports.

The Moldovan official will take part in the meeting of the Foreign Affairs Council of the EU, which is a meeting of the foreign affairs ministers of the EU member states. There, he will speak about the progress made in implementing the nine recommendations formulated by the European Commission in June 2022 and in accelerating the process of harmonizing the national legislations with the EU’s.

The Deputy Premier will also discuss the threats faced by the country, regional security in the context of Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine, building of the country’s resilience and the important support offered by the EU in this regard.

Nicu Popescu will have meetings with the Secretary General of the European External Action Service Stefano Sannino, Vice President of the Council of Ministers of Italy Antonio Tajani, Director-General of the Directorate-General for Neighborhood and Enlargement Negotiations of the EU Gert-Jan Koopman and other European officials.

The meetings with the European officials will also center on the holding of the European Political Community Summit in Moldova at the beginning of June. While in Brussels, the Moldovan official will give a number of interviews for the foreign press.
