Deputy Prime Minister Nicu Popescu, Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, reiterated in Paris the appreciation for the constant support offered by France to the Republic of Moldova. The Moldovan official delivered a speech at the French National Assembly alongside a number of French officials, IPN reports.

“I noted the assistance in organizing the European Political Community Summit of June 1 and the support for the agreement to reduce roaming charges. I also underlined the importance of the Moldova Support Platform initiated by France, Romania, and Germany. Owing to this, our country managed to overcome the multiple crises generated by the Russian Federation’s unjust war against Ukraine,” said Nicu Popescu, being quoted in a press release of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration.

In his speech, the official underscored the importance and methods of accelerating the Republic of Moldova’s accession to the Europeans Union and the progress made by Moldova in implementing the nine recommendations put forward by the European Commission.

On the sidelines of the event, Nicu Popescu met with the President of the French National Assembly Yaël Braun-Pivet, whom he thanked for the fact that he was welcomed in the legislative body of France.

The minister also met with a group of senators led by the chairman of the Senate European Affairs Committee Jean-Francois Rapin. He welcomed the intensification of the political dialogue at parliamentary level and expressed Moldova’s interest in further developing the expanding commercial relations.

The French senators approved of the progress made by Moldova in the process of joining the EU. “This recognition of our efforts motivates us to continue the reforms and advance on our European path,” noted the Deputy Premier.
