The enlargement of the European Union represents a historic opportunity for the Western Balkan states, Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova. It represents a path of reconciliation and alignment with the fundamental values of the European project: democracy, the rule of law and respect for human rights, Deputy Prime Minister Mihai Popșoi, Minister of Foreign Affairs, stated at the Bled Strategic Forum held in Slovenia, IPN reports.

The official spoke during the panel titled “Europe Whole and Free: Enlargement as a Strategic Reconciliation Project”. He called on the European partners to continue the enlargement process as it is essential for the security and stability of the entire continent. “The Republic of Moldova’s accession to the great European family is a crucial step and a guarantee that no part of Europe will remain outside the circle of peace and common prosperity,” said Mihai Popșoi.

In his closing remarks, the Deputy Prime Minister reaffirmed Moldova’s commitment to European integration. “We will continue to work closely with our European partners to ensure a stable and prosperous future for Moldova and our citizens, in a united and free Europe,” he noted.

During his visit, Mihai Popșoi had a meeting with the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of Slovenia Tanja Fajon. According to the MFA, the discussions centered on strengthening the bilateral relations and exploring new opportunities for cooperation between the Republic of Moldova and Slovenia

The interlocutors conferred on the projects in Moldova that are to benefit from funding from Slovenia and on the prospects of extending cooperation in the field of European affairs through exchanges of good practices.

Tanja Fajon reasserted Slovenia’s readiness to share the experience accumulated in the process of joining the European Union. “Slovenia is eager to support the Republic of Moldova in its European path and to contribute to the development of a solid and fruitful relationship between our countries,” said the Slovenian official, being quoted in a press release.

Mihai Popșoi thanked the official for the support that Slovenia offers to the Republic of Moldova in the reform process. “Slovenia’s contribution, through its expertise, will help us to align ourselves with the European standards. By working closely with reliable partners such as Slovenia, the Republic of Moldova will be able to advance faster on the European path, and this will bring real benefits to our citizens,” said Deputy Prime Minister Popșoi.
