The Municipal Council of Chisinau (CMC) dismissed Mihai Furtuna from office of deputy mayor on Thursday, December 14.
The proposal came from Alexandru Corduneanu, the leader of the People’s Christian Democrat Party’s faction in the council, who stated that, the Court of Accounts discovered several infringements in his activity.
On the other hand, councillors from the “Moldova Noastra” and the unaffiliated ones stated that this decision is not legal. The dismissal proposal is to be made following a Mayor’s request, or at the proposal of one third of the councillors, stated Oleg Cernei.
Interim mayor Vasile Ursu and the head of the Legal department Ghenadie Gluscenco proposed that the councillors wait for Furtuna’s return from the sick leave, so that he brings explanations.
The councillor Igor Crapivca mentioned that such a decision could be brought before the court.
Communist and PPCD councillors didn’t take into consideration these arguments. Furtuna will no longer serve as deputy mayor after his return from the sick leave.
Mihai Furtuna told Info-Prim Neo stated that this decision is absolutely illegal and that he will seek justice in court, especially due to the fact that currently he is recovering in the hospital. According to Furtuna, the ground for the dismissal was the Court of Accounts’ report referring to the activity of the City Hall in 2005, a document which does not aim Furtuna personally, but the capital’s administration, which at the moment of the inspection was also represented by the deputy mayor Vasile Ursu. There are specially appointed departments which administrate finances, Furtuna claims.
Referring to the Court of Accounts’ report, Furtuna stated that the this type of accusations brought to the capital’s administration on concluding contracts without having a financial coverage is a common occurrence, practiced especially by the actual leadership, which haven’t yet paid for the works operated in 2005 in the model-districts.
Mihai Furtuna asserts that his dismissal is of political nature, given his membership in “Moldova Noastra” Alliance. “Now they want another communist or PPCD member in the deputy mayor’s chair”, assumes Furtuna.
The deputy mayor intends to bring the CMC decision on his dismissal before court and, if it is needed, appeal to the ECHR.
