The deputies of the People’s Assembly of Gagauzia on November 15 voted in favor of dismissing the head of Executive Committee of the autonomous region – the Governor. The decision was taken by the votes of 25 deputies of the 30 attending. The vote involved representatives of the Democratic Party, the Communist Party, the Liberal Democratic Party and several independent deputies, IPN reports.
According to a communiqué from the People’s Assembly of Gagauzia, the deputies listened to the report of the legal commission presented by Ivan Burgudji, who made a series of accusations against Governor Mihail Formuzal. Afterward, the Governor provided explanations over the accusations made against him. The proposal to dismiss Mihail Formuzal was supported by 15 Democratic deputies, three independent deputies and one Communist deputy, which is more than one third. One deputy voted against.
Afterward, the deputies named Irina Zelenskaya, the head of the Justice Department, as acting Governor. The decision of the People’s Assembly will take effect after it is published in the official bulletin Express Kanon. The deputies are to set the date of the referendum on giving a vote of no-confidence to the region’s head.
