Deposits in foreign currency lift money supply

The monetary base (M3) has registered in September an increase by about MDL 140 mln, thus reaching MDL 17 bln 835.4 mln, in the context of a significant increase in deposits in foreign currency. The ascending pace of the money supply hasn’t been periled despite devolutions in other elements of the structure. According to the National Bank of Moldova, deposits in foreign currency went up by MDL 256 mln in September and amounted to 527 mln. At the same time, the money supply in MDL (M2) diminished to MDL 11 bln 308.1 mln, compared with 11 bln 424.8 mln in August. M2 comprises term and demand deposits in MDL, monetary instruments and the amount of money in circulation. At the end of September, the amount of money in circulation totaled to MDL 4 bln 744.4 mln, registering a slight decrease by 2.7 mln compared with August.
