Denis Vieru becomes European champion for first time

Moldovan judoka Denis Vieru for the first time became European champion. In France, the 27-year-old athlete scored four victories in the 66kg weight class, against Armenia’s Artyom Ghalachyan, Finland’s Luukas Saha, Azerbaijan’s Yashar Najafov and David Garcia Torne of Spain, IPN reports.

Denis Vieru medaled for two times at the European championships: bronze in 2020 and in 2022. He also won two bronzes at the world championships.

The athlete who was born in Chisinau next year will compete at the Paris Summer Olympics.
