Political analyst Arcadie Barbarosie, director of the Public Policy Institute, considers that the Premier will be elected by two rounds. “I would not assert that Vlad Filat will be voted in by the first round. I believe the Democrats will not vote for Filat in the first round so as to be able to negotiate something more by the second round,” Arcadie Barbarosie stated for IPN.

Doing a mathematical calculation of the votes that Vlad Filat may gain, the analyst said there are a number of scenarios. It is clear that Vlad Filat has the 31 votes of the Liberal-Democratic faction. “If the seven reforming Liberal MPs support him, there will be 38 votes. The group of Vadim Misin promised support once, but I don’t know what talks they held. With their votes, the figure will rise to 41. The Socialists will not vote for Filat because they want a technocratic Government led by Igor Dodon or Zinaida Grecheanyi”, said Arcadie Barbarosie.

The analyst considers that the Democrats held intense negotiations with Vlad Filat and asked to control one or two ministries that were earlier under the management of the Liberal Party. “Now the group of Liberals wants to keep the ministries. Their move changed the plans. Marian Lupu may be dissatisfied as the Democrats want to take over the ministries controlled by the Liberals. There are yet many unknowns,” stated Arcadie Barbarosie.

In order to be voted in, Vlad Filat must garner 51 votes. The group of Socialists, five Liberal MPs, the Communist lawmakers and unaffiliated MP Mihai Godea said they will not give a vote of confidence to the Liberal-Democratic leader.
