The former minister of foreign affairs of Germany Christoph Zopel considers that the Democrats will form a parliamentary majority after the July 29 early elections. At a news conference held by the Democratic Party on Monday, Zopel said that this will happen with the help of the PDM, which is headed by Marian Lupu.
The former Communist speaker Marian Lupu was elected the president of the PDM at the party’s sixth Congress on Sunday, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Zopel voiced hope that the President that will be elected in Moldova after July 29 will not permit the non-observance of the human rights. He also said that the elections must be free and fair so that the people are sure that their will is respected.
“The rich persons in Moldova enjoy too great privileges,” said Christoph Zopel, adding that after he attended the meeting of the PDM Congress, he became sure that this party will pursue a European policy that will guarantee the respect for the human rights in Moldova, if it comes to power.
Asked about the possibility of uniting the Social-Democratic forces in Moldova, the German official said that “this thing has not yet taken place owing to the behavior of Braghis (Dumitru Braghis, president of the Social Democratic Party – e.n.) and of the double agent of the Communists Party Eduard Musuc.” “I’m sure that the PDM will enter the Parliament, while Braghis will not poll more votes than in the April 5 elections.”
The new president of the PDM Marian Lupu told the same news conference that the dialogue over joining the Social-Democratic forces will be stepped up after July 29, when, according to him, the result achieved in the elections will be an impetus for other Social-Democratic parties to cooperate with the PDM by coalescing with it.
Speaking about the assertions that the elections will be rigged made by the Opposition parties, Marian Lupu said that he counts on the international monitors, especially the Europeans ones, as the PDM will not have representatives in the electoral offices. He also said that according to a rough estimate made by the PDM, 50% of the Moldovans eligible to vote will not be physically able to take part in the elections, which will be on a Wednesday.
At Sunday’s Congress, Marian Lupu was elected the party’s president. The former president Dumitru Diacov is now the president of honor.
