About 8,000 members of the Democratic Party of Moldova (PDM), including mayors, municipal, district and local councilors, participated in the National Assembly of the party on Saturday, June 25. The event was dedicated to the local election results under the motto “Let’s not forget to love the roses” and took place at the Light Athletics Venue in Chisinau, Info-Prim Neo reports.
The festivity began with standing ovation to the party leadership. Marian Lupu, head of PDM, said that the team showed its ability and professionalism. “We proved that we worked together, the central staff and our colleagues in each locality. This was the foundation of our victory at these local elections. I thank you all. You deserve it”, he said.
Lupu prompted the mayors and councilors to begin fulfilling their electoral promises. “I urge you to prove you can keep your word. It’s an honor to lead this team”, declared Lupu.
Vlad Plahotniuc, PDM first vice-president and electoral chief of staff, said that the local elections marked the beginning of a new age for PDM and that it was time people’s expectations were met. “We have promoted responsible persons. PDM knows how to defend its honor and I assure you many other party members will be promoted during the formation of our structures. We have achieved a growth two times bigger than in 2003. In the Alliance for European Integration, we’re the party with the most significant growth since the last elections”, said Plahotniuc.
He added that Moldova was changing and PDM was changing with it. “We’re going towards Europe. We’re proud for those who show initiative. We go on with a lot of work, the modernization of the team and respect for predecessors, on the European path. It’s the time of the Democratic Party of Moldova”, he said.
Dumitru Diacov, PDM honorary president, mentioned this was PDM’s 15th birthday. “It’s the 15th year PDM contributes to what’s happening in Moldova. Today, our numbers are larger than ever: mayors, councilors, people who have influence in each locality. PDM and Moldova are trying to overcome obstacles together and to reach stability. I hope we keep on like this and let our friends know that the Democratic Party was, is and will be”, declared Dumitru Diacov.
Galina Mosoric, leader of the PDM Edinet organization, claims this was one of the harshest campaigns. “What we have achieved is a great step toward the democratization of society. There was stiff competition from the opposition and from our Alliance colleagues. It motivated us and we doubled our result in Edinet. We won the town”, she said.
After the opening, the festivity continued with a concert by Vitalie Dani, Adrian Ursu, Natalia Gordienco and the “Folklore” Music Orchestra.
After the local elections, PDM obtained 220 mayors, 227 district councilors and 2264 village councilors.
