In a public statement, the Democrat Party (DP) expresses its concern and discontent with the amendments made by the Parliament to the Law on wage in the budgetary field, by means of which the wage increases were postponed until January 1.
According to the cited source, DP “considers as dangerous the situation of the state-paid employees because they are being underpaid, especially the doctors, teachers and other staffers working in these institutions. The consequences of this state of affairs are more and more visible and are reflected in the state of education system, lack of teachers, and the low prestige of teachers and doctors’ profession.
DP warns that the low wages of the state-paid employees endanger the economic development, public order, and health of people and will continue to lower the professional skills of the persons working in the system, thus favouring corruption.
The party considers that the amendments to the Law is a consequence of the errors made by the government, which should have foreseen the lack of funds and avoid such a situation. “It is an incident which seriously saps state’s authority and social stability. By neglecting the previously made promises will affect a considerable category of population and will compromise a series of reforms”, the statement says.
DP urges the Government and the ruling party to reconsider its standpoint about this issue and to start a dialogue, including consultations with the opposition parties in order to overcome this situation and to avoid social tensions.
