Delegations to the European Junior Olympiad in Informatics (EJOI) are expected to arrive today in Chisinau. Around 100 students from 26 countries, aged 15½ years and younger, will participate in the computer programming competition. Moldova is represented by four students.

Our national team consists of two girls and two boys: Andreea Şendrean, Alexei Baca, Andrei Povar and Anastasia Corsac. The team leader is Angela Globa, deputy rector of Ion Creangă State Pedagogical University. Her deputy is Corina Negara, teacher of mathematics and computer science.

After arriving today, the teams are due to take part in the opening ceremony on Saturday, to be held at the University’s Class of the Future, following by an introductory session. On August 18, the first competition session will take place at USM, Mediacor. The next day, the participants will go on a trip to Orhei to discover Moldova. On August 20, the second competition session will take place, which will also be held at USM, Mediacor. On August 21, there will be a second trip, followed by an awards ceremony that will take place at the State Pedagogical University.

Winners will receive medals and prizes from sponsors. The medal has the shape of a rhombus, inspired by the letter O of the Olympic logo EJOI. The Ministry of Education notes that this design choice symbolizes stability and balance, giving the medal a distinctive and modern look.

On August 22, the teams will leave Moldova.

The previous EJOI, the 7th edition, was hosted by Georgia in the city of Kutaisi in 2023 from September 8-14.
