The presidential decree by which Igor Grosu was designated as a candidate for premiership is constitutional. The Constitutional Court rejected the challenge filed by the Socialist MPs, IPN reports.

The Court’s decision is definitive, cannot be challenged, takes effect when it is adopted and is published in the Official Gazette.

Constitutional judge Vladimir Țurcan formulated a separate opinion.

After negotiations held with the parliamentary groups on March 16, President Maia Sandu said that she took note of Mariana Durleșteanu’s decision to withdraw her candidacy for premiership and, as there was no candidate supported by a formalized parliamentary majority, she decided to propose PAS president Igor Grosu for Prime Minister. On March 17, the Party of Socialists challenged the presidential decree in the Constitutional Court and the next day announced the formation of a parliamentary majority that proposed current Ambassador of Moldova to Russia Vladimir Golovatiuc for Prime Minister.
