The municipal council will meet Wednesday, September 26, in a special meeting for the examination of a single matter – the price decrease for public transport season tickets.
Reexamination of fares for municipal transportation has been requested at the end of August by Premier Vasile Tarlev, which also demanded to redraw from sale the season tickets with prices for September. Tarlev considered improper the increases in prices of season tickets for students, pupils, and for adults.
Local authorities previously declared that they do not agree to decrease prices without a compensation of the losses by the Executive, because if prices are cut municipal transportation companies would suffer losses of MDL 19 million by the end of this year.
The municipality claims that season tickets prices for students and pupils have increased proportionally to travel costs. For pupils, the season ticket for an autobus trip increased by MDL 20, and starting September 1 cost MDL 55, tickets for students increased by MDL 30, and now cost MDL 75. The cost of the season ticket for adults doubled and is now MDL 130.
The trolleybus season ticket for pupils cost MDL 50, for students cost MDL 75 and for adults cost MDL 120. Previously their price was of MDL 22, 33 and 50 respectively.
The interim mayor Vasile Ursu on Monday, September 25, during a working meeting of the City Hall declared that a meeting of the CMC will take place next Thursday, October 5. He requested responsible persons from the City Hall to include in the agenda of the Municipal Council most important issues, so that autumn holidays and the beginning of the heating season do not hamper the decision making process.
