Deputy Parliament Speaker Alexandru Slusari, of the PPPDA, describes the CEC decision to establish three polling stations for the citizens from the left side of the Nistru River as hazardous as this territory is temporally outside the control of the constitutional administration of Moldova. Slusari considers the decision is political in character and is aimed at increasing the number of “voters of the left”.
For the first time in the Republic of Moldova, two polling stations are to be established in Bender municipality and one pooling station is to be opened in Corjova village of Dubăsari district for the July 11 snap parliamentary elections even if these territories are not controlled by the constitutional authorities. Alexandru Slusari thinks the decision is very dangerous and is the result of an agreement between representatives of the PSRM and the Russian Federation.
“The Electoral Code stipulates that elections can organized on the territory controlled by the constitutional authorities. We realize why they intend to open these stations there. By 5,000 Transnistrians who are not aware of what’s happening on the right site of the Nistru will go there and for 200 Transnistrian rubles will vote for the left. It will be impossible to counteract the phenomenon of organized transportation as everything there is controlled by the Transnistrian militia,” Alexandru Slusari stated in the program “Emphasis on Today” on TVR Moldova channel.
The experts of Promo-LEX are also concerned. According to them, the decision endangers the proper conduct of elections as there are risks that the voters will be transported to polling stations in an organized way and will be corrupted.
“It is a huge security risk. We will be unable to delegate observers to monitor the situation there as Promo-LEX was banned from entering the region and has a criminal case against it started there. I wonder if our authorities adopt the same approach in the case of other elections. It wouldn’t be bad to have a mayor in Bender or in Corjova. I wonder why this is done – because the relations between Chisinau and Tiraspol improved suddenly or there are political interests there?” said Promo-LEX expert Nicolae Panfil.
Recently, the Security and Intelligence Service issued a note saying the decision to establish three polling stations for voters from the left side of the Nistru generates risks to national security. CEC president Dorin Cimil said the decision to establish polling stations in Corjova village and in Bender municipality could be reviewed.
