The Central Election Commission’s decision to establish 150 polling stations for the snap parliamentary elections of July 11 after the court of law obliged it to establish at least 191 polling stations is harshly criticized by some of the political commentators, IPN reports.
“It is a biased decision showing that the CEC is clearly politically affiliated. This wasn’t done out of lover for the electoral legislation. As long as we do not learn to punish those who ignore the position of citizens, they will behave like this towards us,” Anatol Țăranu stated in the talk show “Secrets of the Power” on JurnalTV channel.
Electoral experts noted that even if the CEC’s decision is contrary to the court’s judgment, this is final.
“I’m convinced that they will not return to this problem as we no longer have time. I hope our diplomats, representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs already work with the authorities of the state where there are Moldovans. It was decided to establish only 150 polling stations as they budgeted money for this number of sections, despite the court’s judgment. The Election Code provides the final decision is taken by the CEC. Now the Ministry should efficiently work with the authorities of the host countries,” stated Igor Boțan.
Representatives of the PPPDA called on the Prosecutor’s Office to become involved in this case and to punish the CEC members, including legally, for the non-execution of the court judgment.
“This is continuation of the gross sabotage by the CEC, which is fully controlled by the two agents of Igor Dodon, Lebedinschi and Filipov. I don’t know if the “bag” method was implemented there too. These aspects should be examined by the Prosecutor’s Office. Technically, it is harder to change something. Not much time remained, but no one annulled administrative and legal responsibility for non-execution of court judgments,” said Deputy Speaker of Parliament Alexandru Slusari, of the PPPDA.
On June 22, the Supreme Court of Justice upheld the judgment by which the Chisinau City Appeals Court obliged the Central Election Commission to establish at least 191 polling stations outside the country. The CEC’s decision to establish 150 polling stations was based on the expenditure estimate agreed for the snap parliamentary elections of July 11.
