Five more persons succumbed to COVID-19 in Moldova on May 21, taking the death toll to 233. The Ministry of Health, Labor and Social Protection also reported 151 new infections with the novel coronavirus, IPN reports.
Konstantin Rymish, secretary of state at the Ministry of Health, in a press briefing said that 1,267 tests were done today and 221 of them were rerun tests. Over 43,000 tests have been performed so far.
The 151 new cases confirmed on May 21 were recorded in 22 territorial-administrative units, 52 of which in the municipality of Chisinau. Twenty-six of those infected are healthcare workers.
This way, the number of infections with COVID-19 rose to 6,704. Currently, 266 patients are in a serious state and 21 of them were put on a ventilator.
Referring to the situation at the Strășeni District Hospital, where a number of healthcare workers tested positive for COVID-19, Konstantin Rymish said the surgery and intensive care sections have been closed there.
