Hundreds of residents of Chisinau and guests of the capital city celebrated the Feast Day of the Patron Saint of Chisinau on October 14. The people who came to the center of Chisinau visited exhibitions of paintings, graphic works, handicrafts, books and floral arrangements. These also formed lines at the tents selling sausages and other delicious food, IPN reports.

After flowers were laid at the monument to Ruler Stephan the Great and after a service was held at the Metropolitan Cathedral “God’s Birth”, Mayor of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca launched the festivities by opening a cask of wine. He said that Chisinau unites the people, while the union generates power.

The festivities involved delegations from Romania, Ukraine, Switzerland, and Finland. The members of the delegations congratulated the citizens of Chisinau and took part in the cultural-artistic events together with the representatives of the municipality.

After 5pm, the residents and guests of Chisinau watched a concert held on the pedestrian street. Performances were given by the Municipal Orchestra of the Advahov Brothers, Zinaida Julea, Maria Iliut, Mihai Ciobanu, Igor Cuciuc, the band “Plaiesii”, the sisters Osoianu and others. Romanian folk music singer Irina Loghin was the special invitee of the evening.

The leader of the “Our Party” Renato Usatyi staged a similar concert before the Parliament Building. It involved such national singers as Gheorghe Topa and Olia Tira and the Russian bands “Blestiashchie” and “Kabriolet”.

This year, Chisinau celebrated 579 years of the first documentary attestation.
