The €1.8 billion Growth Plan for Moldova, announced by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen in October 2024 in Chișinău, is the first and largest assistance package Moldova has ever received from any partner or the EU. Moldova's current priority is to organize effectively to absorb these funds, stated Daniela Morari, head of the Republic of Moldova’s Mission to the EU, IPN reports.

According to Daniela Morari, the purpose of the plan is to help boost the economy, support specific sectors impacted by the war in Ukraine, and provide the assistance needed for their recovery and growth. Morari believes that once the initial disbursements are made, multiple projects will be implemented, creating a tangible difference for citizens across various sectors.

The head of Moldova’s Mission to the EU emphasized the importance of proper organization to fully utilize these funds. Efforts will also focus on leveraging other tools and instruments. A key objective will be participating in discussions on the next EU budget to ensure Moldova’s needs are integrated into a common financial framework.

In addition to the Growth Plan, Daniela Morari highlighted Moldova’s participation in European programs that support small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in adapting to the competitiveness of the EU single market. She noted that both SMEs and state authorities must actively apply for these projects.

Morari stressed the importance of preparing mature projects to absorb European funds, which involves conducting feasibility studies and creating well-grounded plans. "All steps are necessary and must be completed to ensure the effective implementation of projects. Once the resources are allocated, implementation can begin promptly," Daniela Morari stated.
